Categories

Each category has been specifically tailored to represent the key drivers in today’s ever-changing marketplace. This year each category now has a definition to help you select the right place for it to be entered. If unsure please contact Beth Treleaven.

Entry fee per product: €335 + VAT
Small Producer entry fee (fewer than 10 staff and annual sales under €1 million): 125+VAT. Please click here to apply for your code.
 
A - E      F - L     M - Z
 
Any product that is used to add or enhance the healthy properties of a dish, e.g. Ground Flaxseed or Chia Seed, Cacao Nibs
 
Food that is specially designed and marketed to be a healthier option' infant food is not included.
 
Dairy products that are created with a healthier focus or for an alternative diet e.g. Fat Free Yogurts, Low Fat Cheese 
 
For any product that normally contains dairy but has been created without e.g. dairy free ice cream, dairy free cheese, dairy free yougurts
 
Pre-prepared, ready to eat food that is created with a healthier focus or for alternative diet e.g. sandwiches, salads, fruit pots (please be aware that if your product does not have a health benefit, is not free from or diet specific we recommend you enter the relevant category in the Irish Quality Food Awards)
 

Free From

 
The Free From categories are open to all allergen free products; such as gluten free, egg free, lactose free, dairy free, nut free, soya free or sugar free. These will be split if relevant at judging.
 
Any savoury flavoured, ambient products aimed at the allergen free market e.g. breadcrumbs, marinades, curry sauces
 
Any sweet flavoured, ambient products aimed at the allergen free market e.g. biscuits, bars, spreads, ready to mix baking
 
Any bread or bakery item specifically aimed at the free free market e.g. gluten free bread, egg free cakes
 
Cereal that is sold in a packet - Corn Flakes, Granola, Muesli, Porridge etc aimed at the gluten free/free from market (please be aware that if your cereal does not have a health benefit, free from or is diet specific we recommend you enter the relevant category in the Irish Quality Food Awards)
 
Chilled products aimed at the allergen free market e.g. soups, sausages, soft drinks
 
Chilled, sweet products aimed at the allergen free market e.g. soya dessert
 
Frozen products aimed at the allergen free market e.g. frozen ready meals, frozen fish, frozen desserts
 
Sweet flavoured products aimed at the allergen free market e.g. biscuits, jams, spreads, cakes, tarts
 
 
 
Products often stored in a larder created with a healthier focus or for an alternative diet e.g. Soup, Coconut oil or nut butters
 
Hot beverages that are creative for alternative diets e.g fruit teas, caffeine free products, low fat hot chocolate 
 
Meat substitute products targeting the vegetarian market or those who can’t eat meat, a single product and not a ready meal e.g. Meat Free sausages, burgers, meat free mince etc
 
Read mixed protein shakes, protein powders or any product with additional protein added such as cookies, cereal bars or bread
 
Fish Ready Meals from a healthy range or with a healthier focus
 
Meat Ready Meals from a healthy range or with a healthier focus
 
Vegetable Ready Meals from a healthy range or with a healthier focus, or one which includes meats substitutes as the main ingredient
 
A product whose specific aim in the market place is to be lower in fat - reduced fat yogurt, crustless quiche, reduced fat salad dressings 
 
A product whose specific aim in the market place is to be lower in salt - reduced salt sauces, low in salt nuts, salt free bread
 
A product whose specific aim in the market place is to be lower in sugar - sugar free drinks, diabetic chocolate, reduced sugar jams
 
Any product that can be seen as a snack with healthier or alternative diet properties and savoury flavouring - vegetables crisps, bags of nuts, crackers. 
 
Any product that can be seen as a snack with healthier or alternative diet properties and sweet flavouring - Sugar Free Cereal Bars, Granola bars, Raw Fruit and Nut Bars etc 
 
Products that have fruit and/or vegetables as their main ingredients and target the health market - wheatgrass, health fruit juices, vegetable and fruit smoothies
 
Products that are still or sparkling made with flavourings, or made to add to water e.g. reduced sugar flavoured water; water with added health properties/minerals, sugar free cordials
 
Please Note: The judges reserve the right to reallocate products to categories they fit better, or merge/split categories where they feel they need to.
